Keyword Traffic Estimator

“How much traffic will this keyword send if I rank third?” is the question behind every content investment, and search volume alone can't answer it. This estimator applies published organic click-through-rate curves by position to your keyword's volume, then carries the result through to leads and revenue.

It also shows the upside of moving up: the extra clicks per month you'd gain by climbing from your current position to your target one, and what those clicks are worth at your conversion rate and order value. That number is what justifies the link building or content refresh budget — not the raw volume figure. CTR curves vary hugely by SERP layout, so treat the output as a planning range, not a promise.

How to Use the Keyword Traffic Estimator

  1. 1Enter the keyword's monthly search volume from Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, or Semrush.
  2. 2Set your current position (use 21 or higher if you don't rank yet) and your target position.
  3. 3Enter your conversion rate and the average value of a conversion.
  4. 4Read the estimated clicks at both positions and the monthly gain from closing the gap.
  5. 5Compare that monthly value against what the content or links would cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

What CTR does position 1 get in Google?
Roughly 27–40% for a classic ten-blue-links result, dropping to about 15% at position 2 and 11% at position 3. Below position 10 it falls under 2%. This tool uses a conservative published curve — your own Search Console data is always the better source.
Why is my actual CTR lower than the estimate?
SERP features. AI overviews, ads, featured snippets, People Also Ask, shopping carousels, and video packs all push organic results down and absorb clicks. On feature-heavy commercial queries, real CTR can be half the curve value.
Where do I find my current position?
Google Search Console's Performance report gives you average position per query for pages you already rank for — far more accurate than a one-off manual search, which is personalized and localized.
Is search volume accurate to begin with?
It's an annualized monthly average, rounded into buckets, and it excludes the long tail of variants that actually land on your page. Most pages receive traffic from hundreds of queries beyond the one you targeted, so this estimate is usually conservative.
