Recipe Schema Generator

Recipe is one of the few schema types that still earns a genuinely dramatic rich result — the image carousel, star rating, cook time, and calorie count that dominate food searches on mobile. Miss a required field and you get nothing; this generator makes sure you don't.

— fill in the fields above —

It writes every field Google's Recipe guidelines look for: name, image, author, prep and cook times in ISO-8601 duration format, recipeYield, recipeIngredient as a proper array, recipeInstructions as HowToStep objects, plus optional nutrition, aggregateRating, keywords, category, and cuisine. Paste your ingredients and steps one per line and copy the finished JSON-LD.

How to Use the Recipe Schema Generator

  1. 1Enter the recipe name, a short description, the author, and a hosted image URL.
  2. 2Set prep time and cook time in minutes — total time is calculated and formatted as ISO-8601 for you.
  3. 3Paste ingredients one per line, then instructions one per line.
  4. 4Add yield, category, cuisine, and calories if you have them.
  5. 5Copy the JSON-LD into a script tag with type="application/ld+json" in your recipe page head.
  6. 6Test the live URL in Google's Rich Results Test to confirm it's eligible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Recipe schema fields are required?
Google requires name and image. In practice you want author, description, prepTime, cookTime, totalTime, recipeYield, recipeIngredient, recipeInstructions, and nutrition too — recipes with the full set are far more likely to win the rich result and the recipe carousel.
Can I add star ratings to my own recipe?
Only if the ratings come from real users on your site. aggregateRating must reflect genuine reviews you collect and display; inventing ratings is a structured-data spam violation and a common cause of manual actions against food blogs.
What image size should I use?
High resolution, at least 1200px wide, and ideally supplied in multiple aspect ratios (16x9, 4x3, 1x1). The image must be crawlable — not behind a login, hotlink protection, or a lazy-loading placeholder that never resolves in the HTML.
Do I still need a recipe plugin if I use this?
If your plugin already outputs valid Recipe JSON-LD, don't add a second copy — duplicate markup confuses parsers. This generator is for hand-coded sites, static-site generators, and cases where you need to fix or extend what a plugin emits.
